Sizzler: Campbelltown (2 June 2012)

On route back to Sydney from Perisher, we decided to stop by at Sizzler to relive some childhood memories of pumpkin soup, baked potato skins, cheese toasts and unlimited soft serve. Arriving 30 minutes before the salad bar was to close, we quickly placed our orders for one salad bar ($25) and the petite eye fillet ($32) and rushed over to the salad bar.

Soup selection
Salad sauces
Salad condiments
Potato bake
Potato skins and potato bake
soft serve machine!
cheese toasts
pumpkin soup with croutons
Petite eye fillet - 150g beef fillet served with mushroom sauce and mash potato
L-R: Banana caramel pie; butterscotch apple crumble cake

Unfortunately Sizzler did not quite live up to our expectations rooted from our perfect childhood memories. While the highlight of the dinner were the cheese toasts, the potato skins and pumpkin soup (which were my favourites) did not taste anything like the ones I remembered - the potato skins were very dry and the pumpkin soup just seemed watery. Either the standards have gone down, or our taste buds have evolved since our 10-year old versions. Possibly a combination of both. At least we've tried Sizzler again in our adulthood, and most likely will not be returning back anytime soon as there are much better all-you-can-eat places in terms of both food quality and value.
